Christmas is coming!
The Tom Hiddleston Guide because god is he the perfect gentleman.
ben howard - oats in the water
and hold your gaze,
there’s coke in the midas touch,
a joke in the way that we rust
and breathe again
and you’ll find loss
and you’ll fear what you’ve found
If you ever want to feel inspired this is the video and song to go to. When I first heard this song I was learning guitar at school a few years ago and my guitar teacher was talking about this little-known guy Ben Howard who he’d seen somewhere and who was going to be big. He was right.
"hot sand on towes, cold sand in sleeping bags / I’ve come to know that memories / were the best things you ever had"
This is a song of several musical parts and patterns which has been pieced together into an extraordinary whole. It evokes the wonderful Cornish landscape and the quiet strength of nature.
"I’ve come to know the friends around you / are all you’ll always have… Careless and young, free as the birds that fly…"
It is a song that feels like it’s life-giving. I always come back to it with a renewed sense of wonder. The beautiful warm, sun-speckled colours of the beginning fit beautifully with the languid intro and the gently nostalgic lyrics.
It is about awakening - embracing a moment and filling your senses with the natural world around you. Live it.
Song of the day
Black Flies by Ben Howard. My favorite song these days!
